Learn how the show Suits proved an inspiration for Logan’s legal career and the power of seeing someone who looks like you onscreen. And while she may be young, Logan’s go-to song reaches way back while continuing to inspire this attorney on the rise.
Who was your first fictional legal inspiration and why?
My first fictional legal inspiration was Jessica Pearson from the TV show Suits. It was incredibly empowering to watch a beautiful Afro-Cubana woman in the role of a managing partner of a top corporate law firm in New York City. Jessica Pearson was authentic and confident, always impeccably dressed, and served as a mentor to others. She effortlessly navigated the power dynamics in a male-dominated industry, and no one could best her intelligence. Jessica Pearson proved to me that I, as a black woman, can cause a shift in the legal world and make a significant impact.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions about being an attorney or the legal function itself?
There is a common misconception that attorneys are experts in every field of law. While it’s nice to be regarded highly, the law is a complex and vast field, and it’s impossible to be an expert in all areas.
What song or album motivates you the most?
One of my favorite motivational songs is “A Closer Walk” by Fred Hammond. It serves as a reminder for me to draw near to God and experience His captivating love. I can overcome any obstacle and achieve my goals in God’s presence. This song always inspires and uplifts me, and it brings a smile to my face every time I listen to it.
