As Gartner’s director of legal and compliance for the Middle East, Yosr Hamza oversees the region’s legal team. The in-house counsel supports a wide range of activities including legal, contracts, data privacy, and compliance work in the Middle East region.
As a young woman of color and faith as well as a mother, Hamza is well-accustomed to encountering bias. But the attorney has worked hard to change her own narrative about bias she feels can be inevitable.
“I don’t talk. I act. I do,” Hamza says. “The easiest way to inspire others is with your actions.”
The lawyer is passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is a fierce supporter of mentorship, sponsorship, female empowerment, and disability advocacy. Outside of her role at Gartner, she has been heavily engaged in multiple initiatives to support underrepresented candidates and lawyers in the region via Grow Mentoring, Mosaic, the Link, the Association of Corporate Counsel, Middle Sex University in Dubai, and the Gartner Crew mentorship program.
The best advice Hamza has ever received is to be confident and to be authentic. “I don’t misrepresent myself to be liked,” she says. “This showing up authentically every day part is critical.” It’s no wonder Hamza’s theme song of choice is Sia’s “Unstoppable.”
