Katie Lazares acts as one-third of Boston Globe Media’s in-house legal team. Her day-to-day responsibilities include advising newsroom and business partners on a wide assortment of general media, IP, privacy, advertising, contractual, employment, and other corporate matters.
Lazares is also incredibly passionate about social justice and civil rights causes—especially workplace rights.
“Having seen too many cases that I thought could’ve been prevented or mitigated had there been proper oversight within company walls, I was inspired to go in-house and work hand-in-hand with HR teams to proactively inhibit such workplace harms and promote a positive, supportive, and DEI-driven work culture for all, from the inside,” Lazares explains.
The attorney hopes to continue building out in-house experience to continue her rise and be known as a leader dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
As a queer-identifying professional, Lazares enjoys mentoring LGBTQ+ law students and serves as a member of the Massachusetts and National LGBTQ+ Bar Associations. She’s also involved with Boston Globe Media’s DEI committee.
Lazares, Greek American, is a founding member and board member of the New Leaders Division of the Hellenic Initiative, a global nonprofit dedicated to developing sustainable and business improvement programs to aid and promote crisis relief, entrepreneurship, and economic development in Greece.
“I’ve taken inspiration throughout my professional journey from generations of immigrant family members who came before me, who emigrated from Greece with very little money but with tremendous heart and a spirit of entrepreneurialism,” she says. “I am a sum of their parts and strive to build on and honor their legacy, adding my own little spin along the way.”
