In addition to her work at Adobe, she has served as a co-chair of the nation’s first LGBTQ+ bar association, the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) from 2021 to 2023. Long Chavez is most proud of founding an undocumented student support group during her undergrad years at Loyola Marymount University.
She shares a piece of advice that’s helped her throughout her career, a song that motivates her, and more.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions about being an attorney or the legal function itself?
One of the biggest misconceptions about being an attorney is that we know a lot about a broad range of legal subject matter. Rather, we’re specialized, and have subject-matter expertise on just one, or a few, areas of the law.
What’s a piece of unconventional advice you’ve received that was helpful?
It’s a rare blessing to pursue your life’s passions and make a career of it. Whether or not the two converge, leave yourself room to have what you find personally rewarding change as you make your journey through life. Nurturing interests outside of work is just as important as being dedicated to your job.
What song or album motivates you the most?
“In Rainbows” by Radiohead
