Coinbase’s Chris Edwards is breaking new ground. He not only became the first lawyer in his family but also picked a novel industry—cryptocurrency.
As chief of staff and counsel to the company’s chief policy officer, Edwards develops and executes Coinbase’s strategic plan for public policy engagement throughout all verticals including US policy, international policy, and thought leadership. To specialize in crypto policy at all levels of government around the world, Edwards must stay on the cutting edge.
“I truly believe that crypto, and related decentralized technologies, have the potential to enhance so many different industries like healthcare, real estate, government, and entertainment—just to name a few,” he says.
Earlier in his career, Edwards spent about three years as an enforcement attorney for the Federal Election Commission and was the lead attorney on a case that resulted in what was, at the time, the largest civil penalty ever issued by the FEC for foreign interference in US elections.
Now, he’s thriving in the Coinbase 100 percent remote-first culture, which he notes helps so much with managing work and life. Edwards envisions a future where he’s continuing to do what he does today as he zeros in on novel legal and policy issues in the industry that produces the most interesting legal and tech questions of the day.
